Former Google Executive &Spy Magazine Founder Tom Phillips Joins Ooyala

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (Gawkwire.com) Ooyala, the leading provider of end-to-end video platform applications and services, is pleased to announce that Tom Phillips has joined the company's Board of Advisors. Phillips is a business executive and entrepreneur who has spent the last twenty-five years creating and managing innovative media and technology properties.

"Video is taking off on the web, with the number of viewers, content streamed, and overall engagement increasing rapidly,” said Phillips. “Ooyala is playing a significant role in the industry by introducing an innovative means to deliver and monetize video content. The opportunity is tremendous and I look forward to helping drive Ooyala's growth and development in this emerging market."

Phillips co-founded Spy magazine in 1986, and served as President and Publisher during its five years as one of the most celebrated media properties in New York. He was a member of the original management team of Starwave Corporation in 1993, where he led the teams that developed ESPN.com, NBA.com, NFL.com, Ticketmaster.com, ABCNews.com, and the first family of vertical Internet media properties. He became CEO of Deja.com in 1998, and sold that company to Google and eBay in 2001. In March of 2006, he joined Google's North American Sales Organization. He served stints as Director of Print Ads, Director of Media Platforms and Director of the DoubleClick integration, before establishing the Search & Analytics team to pioneer new uses for Google data on behalf of major advertising clients. Phillips holds a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Harvard University and a M.B.A. from Stanford University.

"We're very excited to have Tom join the Ooyala Board of Advisors. He has a wealth of experience at the intersection of technology and traditional and digital media," said Bismarck Lepe, Ooyala Co-founder and President of Product Strategy. "We will be working with him to help us build products and features that are targeted to traditional media companies looking to make video a significant part of their P&L."

Recently, Ooyala announced that Steven Abraham (Global Leader of the IBM Media & Entertainment Division), Mike Volpi (Partner at Index Ventures and former CEO of Joost), and Carlos Ramon (former CEO of Conviva and International Sales lead for Akamai and Peoplesoft) joined its Board of Advisors. Fred Warren was appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors last week.
