8 Tips to Save Money Shopping Online

Retail stores have their post holiday sales but weaving your way through the maze of online stores that have post holiday sales, discounts and special offers can be a little nerve-wracking. Whether you are surfing for an iPod for Aunt Alice, winter boots for little Johnny or a surfboard for yourself, there are some essential rules you need to follow to maintain your sanity and your pocketbook.

StarReviews has compiled a list of rules and tips that will help you find savings online while making sure you are safe when you shop.

1.   Find the product and the store that you want to shop at first, then look for coupons. Sites like StarReviews, have done the research for you and have listings of the, top rated free coupon sites.

2.   When in doubt, visit sites like the BBB, SHOPzilla, and ConsumerConfidence.net to make sure the store is reputable.

3.   Always look for free shipping offers as many stores offer savings at certain purchase levels.

4.   Save sales tax by ordering what you want from a website based out-of-state.

5.   If the coupon you found is expired, give it a try anyway. Many stores leave their coupons valid after the expiration date.

6.   When all else fails, try Google! If you can't find a specific coupon go to Google and search for "XYZ Store Coupon". Try variations of your search and you may be surprised.

7.   Check out Deal a Day websites for great one shot bargains.

8.   We all get gifts we weren't in the market for and many of us will auction them off on eBay. eBay is a great source for post holiday bargains.

"StarReviews is dedicated to helping consumers make the best choices and get the most for the money," said Jeff Rosenzweig, Vice President of Marketing for StarReviews, "This time of year, especially with today's economy, we really want to do everything we can to help people maximize their online savings."

After the holidays is a great time to shop and save online without having to deal with the crowds at the mall. Follow some simple rules, don't buy anything that is "too good to be true", and take your time to find the great deals. They are out there ... especially after the holidays.
