(Gawkwire) – Today at VMworld® 2011, iland™, a leading provider of VMware® software-hosted, cloud computing infrastructure and the VMware Service Provider Partner of the Year for Americas today announced its support of VMware vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager 5. The disaster recovery solution now offers VMware vSphere® replication and planned migration capabilities supporting heterogeneous storage platforms to provide simple, cost-efficient replication between VMware vSphere clusters. iland Continuity Cloud integrates with VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5 to provide a hosted replication target with dynamic auto-tiered storage ensuring customers’ complete, automated recovery of their most critical assets. iland is a member on VMware’s panel at VMworld 2011 to discuss the topic of disaster recovery using VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5. The session, entitled “DR to the Cloud With SRM 5 and vSphere Replication – Service Provider Perspective”, will be held twice – 11.30 a.m. on Monday, August 29 in the Titian 2301B room and 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30 in the Lando 4304 room at the Venetian Hotel.
VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager offers a range of benefits: it provides simple, cost-efficient replication of applications to a failover site; it dramatically simplifies the setup and on-going management of recovery and migration plans reducing the time required to set up a recovery plan from weeks to minutes; and it automates the failover and migration process for highly reliable failovers. The failover process is entirely automated to eliminate errors inherent with manual processes.
Traditionally disaster recovery protection has been cost prohibitive and too complex to be broadly applied to all businesses leaving a substantial risk as day-to-day activities still rely extensively on unreliable backup systems with complex recovery processes.
“In a perfect world, all organizations would have a simple, cost-effective, reliable disaster recovery plan in place” stated Dante Orsini, VP, Business Development at iland. “iland together with its solution provider partners, will integrate with VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager to provide a cost-effective automated disaster recovery solution making it easier for organizations to protect their most critical assets. Our recent collaboration with DynTek and its customer Psomas, is a real life example of this.”
Psomas is a west coast-based consulting engineering firm serving private and public clients in a number of vertical markets in the Los Angeles region. It recently implemented VMware vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager 5 with iland Continuity Cloud. Chris Pinckney, CIO of Psomas is pleased with the solution “We were looking for a highly cost-effective solution to automate our disaster recovery process that would not take a toll on resources that were focused on growing our business. Through DynTek, we became aware of its collaboration with iland and VMware and realized this was a way for us to adopt a solution that would allow us to manage the recovery process and minimize the cost associated with building a secondary datacenter which in our case was about $213,000.”
“We are delighted to see iland, one of our key service provider partners, collaborate with our leading Business Continuity Competency accredited solution providers to deliver a globally available cloud-based disaster recovery service based on VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager,” said Geoff Water, director, service providers, VMware. “This approach will leverage best practices for on- and off-premise private clouds ensuring cost-efficient, robust protection options for our customers.”
iland has partnered with DynTek and DSA Technologies to bring a full VMware vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager 5 solution to market. Both organizations are VMware certified Solution Provider Partners and hold VMware’s Solution Competency for Business Continuity. They provide consultancy services and work with iland to offer a complete disaster recovery solution to clients.
“We are focused on providing the best consultancy services to each of our clients” commented Jason Gordon, Managing Director for Virtualization and Storage at DynTek. “We deliver the most robust but cost-effective solutions for enterprises whether deployed on or off premises. Working with companies like iland gives us the opportunity to provide best-in-class cloud infrastructure solutions. And in Psomas’ case, a cost-effective DR solution.”
Michael Pearson, CEO of DSA Technologies stated “We work with a number of organizations to provide the best possible solutions for our customers. We were an early adopter of cloud technology and run our own internal infrastructure on iland. We provide cloud based solutions that afford great opportunities for clients looking to automate the DR process without breaking the bank.”
What differentiates this new SRM solution is its customer managed automated failover which puts the customer in control of initiating and fully recovering their environment, thereby mitigating the cost of building and maintaining a secondary disaster recovery site. The solution is targeted at those companies that must have failover without intervention, for example companies dealing with stringent regulatory issues or Software as a Service providers with demanding Service Level Agreements. As a result, the launch of this solution opens up a host of opportunities for these types of companies offering them real initiatives to control costs and grow their businesses.
