First of all, the Internet brinds millions, and millions of US$$ each year to the US. Everyone that works on a datacenter, hosting company, etc, and even internet companies like Google, Amazon, etc, ask all of them. How many of your revenues are from the US and how many are foreign? Some have more sales outside then inside the US. The whole world hosts at US datacenters to give an example. I have a US company that sells to Europe and Latin America. I dont live the US and I invested more then 1$ millon already. So Internet its allot of money to the US, from all over the world. Its absolutely fair the ICANN should share a little of the control. The second statement, we invented the Internet?
Oficially. Nobody invented the Internet. The US started to create networks but they did not invented the networks. Allot of people invented the Internet, including Japan, Europe, etc. Someone invented the TCP protocol, other the WWW protocol, other contributed to the mass deployment of server with a free OS (linux), with Windows this would had never happen. Yes, the US was the one that contributed the most, but Internet was something that was going to happen eventually everywhere, when people start to connect each others. If it was with computers it would had happen with cell phones, or tv.
