(www.gawkwire.com) – More than 40,000 small and medium businesses (SMEs) across the UK have now benefitted from the Government’s Broadband Connection voucher scheme, latest figures published today show. The scheme, which allows SMEs to apply for grants of up to £3,000 each to cover the costs of installing faster and better broadband, has seen a huge surge in demand in recent months with 40,000 businesses now having grants approved, but time is running out for businesses to take advantage of the initiative.
Announced at the Chancellor’s budget in April this year, Bournemouth (addresses with BH/DT postcodes) was the latest addition to the 50 city strong scheme thanks to its recent acknowledgement in the recent Tech Nation report as the ‘fastest growing digital economy’ so now C4L, the largest ISP in the region and main infrastructure provider for Dorset have been supplying Connection Vouchers to SMEs in the South’s Digital Hub as well as the capital. The scheme has helped C4L link a huge variety of businesses with the global internet at the fastest speeds, including architects, estate agents, digital agencies, stockbrokers, mechanics, cafes, graphic designers and caterers.
Digital Economy Minister Ed Vaizey said: “Our offer to small businesses has been a tremendous success and is proving incredibly popular. More than 40,000 businesses – including more than 406 from Bournemouth, have already taken up our offer which is aimed at boosting both their broadband speeds as well as their bottom line. Businesses need to act now to ensure they don’t miss out on this fantastic offer and I’m urging all eligible businesses to apply now before it’s too late.”
One Connection Voucher customer of C4L, Nick Chetwood, a stockbroker at Farley & Thompson said: “Why didn’t we do this sooner?! Getting significantly improved internet connectivity through the Connection Voucher couldn’t be easier with C4L, all I had to do was confirm my business address and they looked after everything else for me, their remarkably high quality service was friendly and non-patronising. We are going to be happy for many years to come that we took the opportunity while it was here and saved so much on the install thanks to the scheme. The faster connection will significantly improve our business and I would recommend C4L unequivocally.”
Matt Hawkins, Chairman and Founder of C4L said: “This government supported initiative allows us to extend our high performance network directly into Bournemouth enterprises, in many cases the connection voucher covers the setup costs entirely, effectively removing the barriers to the service. Too many businesses are running on domestic grade services, I am looking forward to empowering them with business calibre connectivity, so that they are better able to operate effectively and competitively. My aim is to provide all Dorset businesses with ultrafast internet speeds as the norm.”
