ParaScale & Moonwalk Partner to Deliver a Cloud-based Storage Solution

The volume of digital data created and stored by organizations continues to grow exponentially. A large percentage of this data is required to be accessible at all times even though the data may not be accessed frequently. Administrators typically will continue to purchase primary storage to accommodate the growth of this data. This primary storage continues to grow even though the majority of the data may not be accessed for some time and the enterprise ends up paying for capacity to store infrequently accessed files. To assist storage administrators with identifying these files, ParaScale and Moonwalk have partnered to offer an integrated hierarchical storage management solution that empowers administrators to proactively define data migration policies and enable these policies throughout the enterprise. Using such policies, administrators can migrate their infrequently accessed primary data to a private ParaScale storage cloud. The end result is a significant reduction in TCO of purchasing and managing storage.

The ParaScale/Moonwalk solution runs on commodity Linux hardware.  Enterprises can start small, try out the solution in a free, low-risk environment, and scale seamlessly to petabyte scale with no downtime.  Administrators can migrate data to the ParaScale storage cloud based on policy which they can determine through the use of the Moonwalk software. Users can define data migration rules based on attributes of their data, and run simulations to determine the savings in storage capacity of primary storage before doing the actual migration. By migrating primary data off Tier 1 storage, the amount of storage that needs to be backed up is greatly reduced, thus dramatically shrinking backup windows and reducing cost.
