Web Hosting Provider myhosting.com Opts for Cisco Virtual Switching System

Toronto, Vocus (Gawkwire.com) myhosting.com today announced that it has deployed Cisco Virtual Switching System (VSS) technology through the purchase of Cisco Catalyst® 6509 switches. The Cisco Catalyst switches will allow myhosting.com to virtualize its network system, allowing multiple core switches to act as a single virtual Catalyst switch.

The investment in Virtual Switching System technology will help to simplify system management and routing, and deliver sub-200 millisecond layer 2 link recovery during a failover. The new scalable environment can handle up to 40 gigabits per second of traffic and helps offer industry-leading performance and reliability to myhosting.com’s Web Hosting, Business Email and Virtual Private Server customers.

myhosting.com is implementing the virtual switching technology as part of its ongoing investment in technology innovation. Aligning with Cisco's latest technology places myhosting.com on the cutting edge of the Cisco core network product suite, which includes firewall aggregation and application content engine technology at the edge of the network.

The VSS technology supports multiple 10-gigabit Ethernet links to be active simultaneously, while connecting myhosting.com to multiple Tier-1 network providers and peering partners.

"We are excited to be deploying one of Cisco's newest technology innovations," says Mark Salerno, Vice President of Technology at myhosting.com. "This deployment in our network helps to ensure high performance, reliability and scalability for our customers who depend on us being up 24x7. myhosting.com has always strived to be the first to invest in the latest hardware and software, so that our customers benefit quicker from improvements from the latest vendor technology."
